Hornby Arts is seeking a post secondary student to join our team as an Exhibitions and Visitor Services Assistant at the Hornby Arts Centre.
This is a hands on, learning focused role within a newly opened public cultural facility. Over the summer months, the Centre hosts exhibitions, events, workshops, and community programming for both residents and visitors, offering a dynamic and engaging environment to gain experience in the arts and heritage sector.
About the role
Working under the supervision of the Executive Director, you will support the day to day public operation of the Arts Centre, including visitor services, exhibitions, and programming.
This role offers practical experience in:
- Visitor services and front of house operations
- Exhibition support and installation
- Public programming and events
- Documentation and digital content
- Arts administration and community engagement
Key responsibilities
- Welcome visitors and provide orientation to exhibitions and events
- Support front desk operations and respond to general enquiries
- Assist with exhibition upkeep and changeovers
- Support events, talks, workshops, and children’s programming
- Help document exhibitions and events (photography, digital records)
- Assist with visitor and attendance tracking
- Support volunteer coordination and use of the space
- Assist with website updates and social media content, where appropriate
Who we are looking for
- A post secondary student eligible for the Young Canada Works program
- Interest in arts, culture, heritage, or nonprofit work
- Comfortable working in a public facing environment
- Reliable, curious, proactive, and open to learning
- Basic computer skills (email, documents, digital tools)
An academic background in visual arts, art history, curatorial studies, cultural studies, communications, history, Indigenous studies, community development, or nonprofit administration is an asset, but not required.
