Festival Opening Performance

An interdisciplinary and intergenerational performance featuring local performers and launching the 10th anniversary of Herring Fest.


Community Art Show Opening Gala

Celebrate the opening of the Herring Fest Community Art Show with live music by On the Rocks, a licensed bar, and West Coast refreshments.

Friday March 6

Film Night – Salmon Secrets
Hornby Community Hall
Doors 6:30 pm • Tickets $20

Opening performance by Dr Laura’s Choir followed by the documentary Salmon Secrets.

The evening concludes with a conversation featuring Chief Ernest Alfred (‘Na̱mg̱is First Nation), Dan Lewis, and Bonny Glambeck.

A day of talks exploring Pacific herring, marine stewardship, and coastal ecosystems, featuring Indigenous leaders, researchers, activists, and youth voices.

A new creative program for children, youth, and families exploring ocean themes through art making.

March 8 – Ocean Maker Space
Create small ocean ecosystem sculptures using recycled and found materials.

March 15 – Storytime & Herring Painting
Storytime followed by painting inspired by herring in motion.

March 22 – Printmaking Workshop
Learn printmaking techniques including lino cuts and collagraphs.

March 29 – Community Ocean Mural
Help create a collaborative mural inspired by ocean life.

April 5 – Origami for Easter
Learn Japanese paper folding and create fish, birds, and baskets.

Materials provided.
Children under 10 must be accompanied by an adult.
