We have two pieces of big news: another matching grant was successful and our recent fundraising campaign is doing wonderfully.
The first item:
BC Gaming announced in December 2019 that it is contributing $250,000 to the Arts Centre! If you’ve been following our fundraising efforts, you’ll know that this means we have reached all of the match-funding conditions of our other funders. We are now at approximately $1.2 million dollars in cash funding for the Arts Centre, and we can move ahead into pre-construction and construction with absolute confidence and assurance in 2020. In 2021 we’ll be up and running and delivering incredible new programming!
The second item:
We haven’t reached our estimated target of $1.375 million dollars to cover all our hopes for this first phase of the Arts Centre. Our fundraising efforts continue. We are soliciting donations from our entire community. Please share the news and encourage others to consider a charitable receipted donation. Doing so is quite simple: either directly on our webpage, www.hornbyarts.com, or by sending a cheque made out the “The Hornby Island Arts Council” at 2115A Sollans Road, Hornby Island, BC, V0R1Z0 with “Arts Centre” in the memo line. To make the space a home, we need donations to pay for things like construction site clean up, access roads, and for the finishing touches to the interior that will make the space welcoming. The funds from this campaign will support critical discretionary spending: most of our match funding—over 80% of our current total funds—cannot be used for interior needs, like chairs or specialized equipment, or exterior needs, like parking and landscaping or even the administrative work I’m doing, including leveraging other funding. In 2019, we’ve raised $60,000 in pledges and cash funds. Since launching our recent campaign in November, $52,000 of this has been raised from 16 different individual donations with sums ranging from $50 to $15,000! We still have a $175,000 gap to reach $1.375M, but we are feeling great about our progress, and we would like to see the entire community behind the current fundraising push. Anyone who makes a donation, large or small, contributes to the whole and ensures our entire community takes ownership of this building.
Presently, we’re happy to share that we do not anticipate that the COVID-19 pandemic will slow down the project.
Wishing you all the best on behalf of everyone at HIAC,
Andrew Mark, E.D.
